Workplace Personalities, Part 1 – Can Work Be Fun?

The sanguine personality is all about fun. They are all about people. And . . . they love to talk. So, it makes sense that they would thrive in an environment that includes those elements. Sanguine people prove that work can be fun!

Fun

Harvey MacKay said, “Find something you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” This works for the sanguine person if they follow the fun. This sometimes confuses people because you never know what a sanguine is going to consider fun. For example, my youngest son is sanguine and is going to school to become a mechanical engineer. That is a job usually sought after by a melancholy. But . . . my son has always wanted to blow things up and becoming an engineer is the path he needs to follow. Plus, he thinks math (not so much Calculus 2) and science is fun, fun fun. If he realizes his dream, he’ll never work a day in his life.

People

Sanguine people LOVE people. They thrive in a position that provides access to people. There are a wide variety of jobs in that area such as customer service, public relations, and human resources, just to name a few. These personalities are charming and usually have exhibit good people and motivational skills. These are great traits for those who work with others. Do not stick a sanguine in a backroom or they will be miserable. They want to be where the action is!

Talk

Oh my how the sanguine loves to talk . . . and they are pretty good at it, too! They possess good phone skills and are friendly so they tend to be effective in phone work. If you combine their talkative nature with their love of the spotlight, you have a great public speaker – this makes them engaging trainers and motivational speakers. There are plenty of positions in the world that requiring talkative people and the sanguines of the world are usually the ones that fill them.

Other Great Traits

There are so many things a sanguine to do it’s hard to list them all but considering they love the lime light, work well with people, and never meet a stranger here are some other jobs that a sanguine will shine in:

  • Politician
  • Retail
  • Sales
  • Receptionist
  • Greeter
  • Networking
  • Anything that THEY think is fun

Stay Away

There are a few jobs that most sanguine people need to avoid. This includes jobs that:

  • Require detail
  • Segregate them from others
  • Involve record keeping
  • Require financial responsibilities
  • Use lots of math and science
  • (NOTE: Remember, though, that if a sanguine thinks something on this list is fun, they will probably do a great job . . . remember my son?)

Personalities make a GREAT tool when matching a person to the best position and proving that work CAN be fun!
