That’s funny that he asked you if you ever talked. I guess two melancholy people dating have the edge with each other…although even phlegmatic personalities and melancholy personalities each have different traits that could confuse the other. For example, phlegmatic indifferent and go with the flow, melancholy sensitive and and dramatic.

Oh, how I can relate to this! What’s different in my case is that I married very young, as a senior in high school (though not for the reason everyone thought), and it was only after I married that I found out how many guys in high school liked me but were intimidated by me. Why? Who knows. LOL I could flirt on occasion, but if I really liked a guy it was as if my mouth were glued shut. In fact, when we first started dating my husband asked, “Do you ever talk?” LOL Thankfully he wasn’t put off by my naturally quiet personality. Maybe it was because we wrote lots of letters when we were dating because we didn’t live in the same town and the phone system where he lived at that time made talking on the phone pretty much impossible. We were each impressed by the fact that the other could spell, construct readable, grammatically correct sentences, and had good penmanship. The mutual melancholy admiration society. It probably helped that he is also a natural introvert, although he is still more outgoing than I am.

Thanks for stopping by ladies. I’m always amazed at the similarities between us that can be so different. As a lover of personalities, which I know you are too, Deb, it is also a good tool to be aware of when identifying people. We need to be able to pick out what is the bulk of someone’s personality type or we can get it wrong. I love personalities and the little twists and turns that keep them interesting.

Good post with good analogies. Love this part: “And never, never, never, does this effective leader create terrain that makes things more difficult for his or her charges. This would be considered an INSIDE treat and is more reflective of a wolf (or a dumb sheep who somehow finds him or herself in a leadership position they cannot handle.)” Sounds very familiar right now.

Great analogy! And those “packs” can involve the smaller groups like the so-called “gang of fourteen,” or the “gang of eight.” Gang, pack—about the same difference, same negative connotation in a lot of cases. For being the masters at manipulating language, you’d think the politicians would come up with a better term than “gang.” LOL And then there is the hierarchy of behaviors that the wolves display amongst themselves: alpha, beta, and the submissive omega.

Andy P. I’m glad you stopped by and found some enlightening information. I’ve had people share the same struggle about being laid-back and driven at the same time. They have similar issues….wanting to get things done, but fighting with that phleg part to accomplish them. The best thing is just what you expressed…coming to grips with your personality and who GOD wants you to be.
